Apple’s most popular product always attracts a lot of speculation; blur Designs rounds up the most interesting iPhone design concepts out there.
According to AllThingsD, Apple will launch the new iPhone on September 10th. Whether it’s going to be a half-step S model, a redesigned iPhone 6, or maybe even both is yet unknown. While the rumor mill is at full swing, new, creative iPhone 6 concepts keep emerging all over the Web.
Traditionally, from the iPhone 3G onwards, Apple has always released a half-step S model before the next numbered iPhone. That is why some rumors point towards an iPhone 5S release this September with the iPhone 6 coming up in 2014.
1. The Budget iPhone
The Wall Street Journal, alongside other publications, believes that Apple will release a second, budget iPhone alongside its iPhone 5 successor (iPhone 5S) this September. According to rumors, the phone will be called the iPhone 6, iPhone 5c, iPhone Light or simply iPhone. Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty believes that a budget iPhone 6 could increase Apple’s market share in China significantly.
While having many of the same features of the iPhone 5, the iPhone 6 will have a cheaper albeit sturdy polycarbonate shell instead of the anodized aluminum body of the iPhone 5. The other major difference between the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 6 will be its availability in five different colors (red, green, yellow, blue and white).
2. iPhone 6 in Three Different Sizes
Artist Peter Zigich envisions an iPhone with the Home button moved to one or two of the device’s sides, allowing for a bigger screen or a smaller phone. In order to compete with cheap as well as large screen smartphones, the artist suggests two new iPhone sizes:
iPhone 6 Mini: A small, affordable iPhone with premium materials and a screen similar to the iPhone 4 in size.
iPhone XL: An iPhone with a larger screen, allowing an extra row and an extra column of icons. This model will compete against large phones like Samsung Galaxy S4.
3. iPhone 6 Infinity
The brainchild of Dribbble user Claudio Guglieri, the iPhone 6 Infinity concept shows a device with a flexible screen wrapped around the device. The concept could go in line with a recent Apple patent filing, showing off an iPhone design with a wraparound AMOLED screen.
Guglieri describes the device as having a dual-screen, which may suggest that the screen wraps all the way around the device. In any case, the design looks snazzy and sleek. A rear screen could provide fingerprint detection, rumored as a feature in the upcoming iPhone 5S. However, the vulnerability of a back screen makes this one of the concepts that are less likely to happen.
4. iPhone 6 with a Massive Screen
Following the rumors of a new, larger iPhone without a physical button, Martin Hajek conceptualizes the iPhone 6 with a large 4.8-inch screen. Reminiscent of the Galaxy S3 paired with the HTC One, the design retains Apple’s beveled edges and rounds out the corners. The larger screen takes most of the real-estate, resulting in a device not much larger than the iPhone 5.
5. iPhone 6. An Edgy Concept
Graphic and UX designer Johnny Plaid has showed off an innovative and detailed iPhone 6 concept, stretching the display from edge to edge while keeping the size of the device similar to the iPhone 5. The Retina display will be protected by a strong Graphene cover. Multi-gesture touch support will replace the classic Home button. Plaid’s iPhone 6 will be 40% lighter but 60% stronger and will connect to the Lightning 2, a hybrid of Lightning and MagSafe connectors.
